Alcohol: 13.5 %
Grape(s): Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Location: Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby with a garnet edge. A classic, savory Saint-Émilion at its 2014 best: red plum, black cherry and cassis on the nose, over graphite, cedar, tobacco leaf and earthy forest-floor undertones. Medium-to-full bodied and fresh on the palate — the vintage’s vibrant acidity keeps the Merlot’s plush fruit lively — with silky, resolved tannins, mocha and spice, and a perfumed, medium-long finish. Drinking beautifully now with a decant; it will hold nicely for another 5-7 years.
Notes: Château Gueyrosse’s 40-year-old vines are planted to 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon on Saint-Émilion’s clay-limestone slopes, with yields kept exceptionally low for concentration. Traditional élevage in French oak frames the fruit without overwhelming it. The 2014 vintage gave vibrant, fresh right-bank reds with soft textures and ripe fruit — a vintage of elegance rather than power.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roasted lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and aged soft cheeses like Comté or a mild Brie.
Winery Story: Château Gueyrosse is a family-owned estate on the slopes of Saint-Émilion, whose old vines and restrained winemaking produce the appellation’s signature Merlot charm in an honest, traditional register — a true château wine at one of Bordeaux’s friendliest price points.
