Tamás Kis of Somlói Vándor Winery and Doug Rosen tour the 12 acres of vines in Hungary. Doug personally buys wine from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, France, Argentina, Isreal, and South Africa and consults with many emerging Domaines assisting them in improving their technique, packaging, and marketing. Doug and his staff are on the road at least fifteen times a year. He not only travels Europe but also seeks local brilliance bringing in the best from right here in Virginia. Virginia is Doug's latest passion.
How it all Began
Thirty years ago, Doug Rosen, President of Arrowine, realized the tremendous potential of bringing bespoke wines to Arlington and the D.C. metro area.
He began by personally visiting producers, making selections, and bringing them in, which allowed him to offer them at a reduced price solely for Arrowine's clients. He was one of only a handful of U.S. retailers (even less now) doing this. And with that, he pioneered the use of email offerings. Doug's palate and passionate prose catapulted Arrowine to worldwide recognition, making Arrowine a "Neighborhood Store with a National Reputation." His intuition and efforts proved to be prescient, and the rest is history.
Doug introduced Arrowine's clients (and the United States with the help of very talented brokers) to the work of many winegrowers who are now considered the best of their type in the world. Just to name a few, Cedric Bouchard, Jerôme Prevost, Emmanuel Lassaigne, Stephane Tissot, Vincent, and Räephle Bereche, Jo Landron, Thomas Pico, Gerard Boulay, Laurent Pillot, Herve Rafflin, Fabrice Gasnier, Denis Carre, Jacques, Saumaize, Barbara Geyerhof and many many more.

When Doug purchases wine, he has only one goal: to find the best of its type. Is the wine pure, clean, mineral, and "terrior-driven?" He tastes each wine at least four times and over a day or days before buying it for Arrowine.
Whether it be a new or a seasoned winegrower, the criteria is always, is there a same or better level of quality, more reasonably priced alternative? Names don't impress; only what's in the bottle does.
