Weingut Steininger Blanc de Pinot Noir Sekt Große Reserve 2020
Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): 100% Pinot Noir
Location: Kamptal, Lower Austria, Austria
Tasting Notes: Pale golden color with the faintest blush hue and a fine, persistent mousse; complex and inviting aromas of fresh red apple, white cherry and brioche, layered with notes of toasted hazelnut, cream, dried flowers and a delicate chalky minerality developed through extended lees aging; medium-bodied with a creamy, elegant mousse, vibrant acidity and a beautifully structured palate, offering refined flavors of stone fruit, lemon curd, subtle red berry and autolytic yeast complexity, leading to a long, precise and luxuriously lingering finish.
Notes: Classified as a Große Reserve — the highest quality tier within Austria's rigorous Sekt g.U. (geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung) classification system — this Blanc de Pinot Noir undergoes a minimum of 30 months of aging on the lees following secondary fermentation in the bottle, in the traditional Champagne method (méthode traditionnelle). This extended contact with the spent yeast cells imparts the wine's signature complexity, creaminess and depth, while the Kamptal's cool continental climate ensures the base wine retains the freshness and acidity essential for world-class sparkling wine production.
Food Pairing: Pairs exquisitely with lobster, scallops, smoked salmon, veal sweetbreads, mushroom risotto, soft-ripened cheeses and delicate charcuterie. Also superb as a standalone aperitif.
Winery Story: Weingut Steininger is one of Austria's most celebrated and pioneering sparkling wine producers, based in Langenlois in the heart of the Kamptal — a region renowned for its exceptional Grüner Veltliner and Riesling but increasingly recognized for its outstanding Sekt. Under the passionate stewardship of Karl Steininger, the estate has invested decades of expertise and dedication into mastering the traditional method, producing Austrian Sekt of a quality and ambition that rivals the finest sparkling wines of Champagne. The Große Reserve range represents the pinnacle of Steininger's craft — wines of extraordinary complexity, elegance and age-worthiness that stand as a testament to the remarkable potential of Austrian sparkling wine on the world stage.
