Alcohol: 13.8 %
Grape(s): 78 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 13 % Merlot, 7 % Cabernet Franc, 2 % Petit Verdot
Location: Sonoma County, California, USA
Tasting Notes: Deep purple in color, with a powerful, layered nose of cassis, black truffle, tobacco box, graphite, camphor, and subtle floral notes. The palate is concentrated and structured, showing ripe blackcurrant, dark plum, savory spice, and a mineral, Bordeaux-like frame. It is full-bodied, vibrant, and built for long aging, with a long finish and polished tannins.
Notes: La Joie 2014 was inspired by the wines of Pauillac and made from a blend of fruit drawn from several Sonoma sites, including Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill, and Knights Valley. The wine was aged for 15 months in 100 % French oak, mostly new barrels. The 2014 vintage is especially well regarded, with critics describing it as backward, deeply balanced, and capable of aging for decades.
Food Pairing: Roast ribeye, lamb chops, beef tenderloin, venison, braised short ribs, or dishes with mushrooms and truffle.
Winery Story: Vérité is a Sonoma producer founded by Pierre Seillan and known for Bordeaux-inspired red blends made from many small micro-crus across Sonoma County. La Joie is the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant cuvée and the estate’s most Pauillac-like wine, combining richness, structure, and precision.
