Alcohol: 13.5 %

Grape(s): Viognier

Location: Eden Valley, Barossa, South Australia, Australia

Tasting Notes: Pale straw. Lovely bright lemony freshness with hints of dried herbs and white florals — deliberately not the old-fashioned “apricots on steroids” style. On the palate: delicate stone fruit and ginger over a chalky texture, lifted by wonderfully zippy, bouncy acidity that keeps it taut and food-friendly where Viognier often goes flabby. A short ageing on yeast lees adds gentle texture; the finish is dry, fresh and quietly floral. Enjoy over the next 3-4 years.

Notes: 100% Viognier from two vineyards in the high, cool-climate Eden Valley. Hand-picked whole bunches pressed straight to a mix of mostly used and some new barrels; wild (un-inoculated) fermentation, no malolactic, bottled after a short time on lees. The 2025 vintage in the Eden Valley was excellent for aromatic whites — cool and even.

Food Pairing: Excellent with pork loin, roast chicken, rich fish like salmon, mildly spiced Asian dishes, and semi-soft cow’s milk cheeses.

Winery Story: Tim Smith spent years making the great Shiraz of the Barossa at Torbreck before launching his own label in 2006 — and his Viognier carries the same craftsman’s touch. Small parcels, minimal intervention, old-school skill: an Eden Valley white from one of the region’s most respected hands.
