Alcohol: 14 %
Grape(s): 100 % Pinotage (single-vineyard)
Location: Simonsberg-Stellenbosch, South Africa
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby-crimson. Aromas of ripe black cherry, mulberry, and blueberry jam are layered with notes of cacao nib, rooibos tea, and a faint whiff of fynbos. The palate is full-bodied yet poised, delivering plush dark fruit framed by firm, velvety tannins and vivid freshness. Nuances of graphite, clove, and smoked meat add complexity. Finishes long, savoury, and slightly earthy with lingering spice.
Notes: “Vantage” is drawn from a stony, north-west–facing block planted in 1998 on decomposed granite and iron-rich clay at 300 m altitude. The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and fermented in small open tanks with 20 % whole clusters, receiving gentle punch-downs. Maturation: 14 months in French oak barriques (40 % new), followed by light filtration and minimal SO₂ before bottling. Produced sustainably and vegan-friendly.
Food Pairing: Excellent with braaied lamb chops, slow-cooked beef short ribs, peri-peri chicken, smoky aubergine dishes, or mature Gouda. The wine’s bright acidity and savoury depth handle rich, spicy fare with ease.
Winery Story: Remhoogte Estate was founded in 1812 on the rugged western flank of Simonsberg. Since 1993 the Boustred family has farmed the property using regenerative practices—cover crops, minimal irrigation, integrated livestock—to preserve biodiversity and soil health. Their “Vantage” range showcases carefully selected parcels that demonstrate the site’s dramatic diurnal swings, granite soils, and cooling mountain breezes, translating terroir precision into age-worthy, character-driven wines.
