Tasting Notes: Pale straw with distinct greenish reflections. The nose is bright and electric, offering scents of lime zest, green apple, and wet flint, with a delicate floral hint of honeysuckle. On the palate, it is light-bodied and exceptionally crisp, featuring a slight natural "spritz" or effervescence that carries flavors of white peach and lemon juice. The finish is sharp, clean, and incredibly refreshing with a subtle saline minerality.
Notes: The "VRD" (Verde) is inspired by the refreshing, high-acid wines of Northern Portugal. For the 2025 vintage, the Verdelho grapes were harvested early to maintain low potential alcohol and peak acidity. The wine was fermented at very cool temperatures in stainless steel to lock in the vibrant primary aromatics and bottled shortly after fermentation to preserve its youthful energy and slight carbon dioxide prickle.
Food Pairing: An ideal companion for raw bar selections like oysters and clams, as well as ceviche, grilled white fish, or light summer salads. It also works beautifully with salty appetizers like Marcona almonds or olives.
Winery Story: King Family Vineyards, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Crozet, Virginia, is a premier estate known for its elegant, site-specific wines. The Artist Series represents the winery's experimental spirit, allowing winemaker Matthieu Finot to explore unique styles and techniques. Each bottle in the series features artwork by a local Virginia artist, highlighting the creative synergy between the local arts community and the craftsmanship of Virginia viticulture.
About the Artist
Roshi K is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist who works with textiles, acrylic, digital and mixed media to explore themes of emotional resilience, balance, and the unseen forces shaping the human experience. Utilizing backgrounds in traditional studio art and traditional 2D animation, she weaves together symbolism, metaphysical concepts, organic forms and gold accents to communicate the universal dance between fragility and strength. Roshi K currently resides in Staunton, Va while creating work and savoring motherhood against the serene backdrop of the lush Shenandoah Valley.
Roshi K’s career includes collaborations with brands such as Crown Royal and REI. Her work has been included in group shows across the US as well as in solo exhibits in Austin, Manhattan, and Virginia. Roshi K has enjoyed live painted at festivals including SXSW, Austin City Limits, and X-Games while her illustrations have been featured as the first illustrated cover of Edible Blue Ridge Magazine.
Behind the Label
After being inspired by the creativity embedded in Virginia’s natural wine culture, Roshi K earned a WSET level 2 Award in wines, which deepened her exploration of transformation as a process and practice. Grapes that endure the harshest conditions are often said to create the best wines, a sentiment echoed by the creative resiliency of humans and nature. A lotus flower can represent enlightenment due to the strength it takes to push through the mud in order to bloom. Winemaking also requires a similar strength and enlightenment in order to understand the delicate balance in the forces of nature on the macro and micro levels. Roshi K uses the lotus flower to encourage contemplation of the perpetual act of finding one’s balance in life, while enjoying a glass of wine to sweeten the path through the mud of life.
