Alcohol: 14.0 %
Grape(s): 100% Syrah
Location: Cornas, Northern Rhône, France
Tasting Notes: Dense and powerful yet remarkably precise — blackberry and black cherry, violet, cracked black pepper, olive tapenade and smoked meat, with a granitic mineral spine. Full-bodied with ripe, sculpted tannins and bright northern acidity, finishing long and savory with graphite and garrigue.
Notes: Old-vine Syrah from the domaine's granite terraces in Cornas, hand-harvested and vinified in small lots. Aged in French oak barrels, a portion new, for roughly 18 months before bottling. A warm, powerful vintage that retains freshness.
Food Pairing: Roast leg of lamb, braised short ribs, grilled venison, black olive and herb-crusted dishes, aged hard cheeses.
Winery Story: Domaine Johann Michel is a small family estate in Cornas, the smallest of the Northern Rhône's great appellations, where Syrah grows only on steep decomposed-granite terraces above the village. Cuvée Jana is the domaine's flagship, named for the winemaker's daughter and drawn from the estate's oldest vines — a Cornas built for the cellar.
