Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py 2024

Alcohol: 13%

Grape(s): 100% Gamay (old vines)

Location: Morgon, Beaujolais, France

Tasting Notes: Deep, intense ruby color with garnet reflections; powerful aromas of dark cherry, blackcurrant, and crushed stone, with layers of violet, smoked earth, licorice and wild herbs; full-bodied with dense, velvety tannins and a firm backbone of acidity, delivering concentrated flavors of dark fruit, volcanic minerality and spice, culminating in a long, persistent and strikingly complex finish.

Notes: Sourced exclusively from old vines grown on the steep, blue volcanic schist soils of the iconic Côte du Py hill — Morgon's most celebrated terroir — this cuvée is a true benchmark of what Gamay can achieve. Whole-cluster fermentation and zero-interventionist winemaking allow the volcanic terroir to speak with full clarity, producing a wine of extraordinary depth and ageing potential that rivals the finest wines of Burgundy.

Food Pairing: Pairs magnificently with roast lamb, venison, beef tenderloin, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Best enjoyed after 2–3 years of cellaring or can be aged for up to 10–15 years.

Winery Story: Jean Foillard is one of Beaujolais' most revered natural winemakers, a key figure of the legendary "Gang of Four" alongside Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean-Paul Thévenet. Based in Villié-Morgon, Foillard has championed low-intervention viticulture and winemaking for decades, producing wines of remarkable freshness, depth and authenticity that have helped redefine the image of Beaujolais on the world stage. The Côte du Py cuvée is widely regarded as his most powerful and age-worthy expression, a testament to the volcanic grandeur of Morgon's most iconic hillside.
