Grape(s): 100% Chardonnay
Location: Basalt Vineyard, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA
Tasting Notes: Bright and lifted, with citrus and white peach over a stony, saline core. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish.
Notes: Basalt draws on vineyard sites with volcanic-derived soils, which give the fruit its pronounced mineral edge. Fermented and aged in neutral oak so the site, rather than the barrel, leads.
Food Pairing: Roast chicken, grilled salmon, crab, cream-based pasta and soft cheeses.
Winery Story: Granville Wine Co. is an Oregon producer working in the Willamette Valley, making vineyard-designate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that aim to show the character of individual sites rather than a house style.
