Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red in color, this beautifully expressive Merlot offers inviting aromas of ripe black cherry, dark plum, vanilla, and milk chocolate, complemented by delicate herbal notes. On the palate, it is rich, juicy, and succulent, revealing concentrated flavors of dark cherries, cassis, and ripe plums. Subtle hints of tea-leaf spice add complexity, while supple tannins and balanced acidity create a smooth, polished texture. The finish is long and savory, making this an elegant yet approachable California Merlot.

Notes: Produced entirely from estate-grown grapes cultivated at Gainey's Home Ranch in the warmer eastern Santa Ynez Valley, this wine combines 97% Merlot with 3% Cabernet Franc. The grapes were harvested between October 22 and November 2, 2019, and fermented in small open-top tanks with daily punchdowns and a 14-day maceration to develop rich color, flavor, and structure. The wine was then aged for 12 months in barrels, including 27% new French oak, adding complexity and subtle spice while preserving its vibrant fruit character. Beautifully balanced and ready to enjoy, this Merlot also offers excellent potential for additional bottle aging.

Food Pairing: An excellent companion to roasted duck, grilled lamb chops, beef tenderloin, braised short ribs, and herb-roasted chicken. Its generous fruit and silky tannins also complement mushroom risotto, roasted vegetables, and hearty pasta dishes. Pair with aged Cheddar, Gouda, Manchego, or Gruyère for a delicious cheese accompaniment. A versatile choice for both casual dinners and special occasions.

Winery Story: Gainey Vineyard is a family-owned winery rooted in the agricultural heritage of California's beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. The Gainey family's connection to the region began in the 1960s when Dan J. Gainey acquired the expansive Home Ranch, initially dedicated to cattle, horses, and farming. Recognizing the area's remarkable potential for premium wine production, the family planted its first grapevines in 1984, establishing Gainey Vineyard. Today, the fourth-generation family enterprise continues its commitment to estate-grown wines, combining traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful vineyard management. The winery's Merlot beautifully reflects the warmth, character, and distinctive terroir of the Santa Ynez Valley.
