Alcohol: 12.5 %
Grape(s): Field blend of Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer
Location: Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon, USA
Tasting Notes: Pale gold in the glass. Alsatian-inspired aromatics of lychee, rose petal and spice lift from Gewürztraminer perfume over Pinot Gris texture; the palate is dry and stony, with white peach, citrus oil and a saline mineral undercurrent, finishing long and palate-cleansing despite its aromatic richness.
Notes: A co-planted field blend the winery put in the ground in 1986, picked and fermented together as one wine; low-intervention cellar work, native yeasts, stainless steel, no additions of consequence. 94 points, John Gilman's View from the Cellar.
Food Pairing: Alsatian fare, choucroute, Munster cheese, Thai dishes with lemongrass and galangal, roast duck with fruit, smoked trout.
Winery Story: Evesham Wood was founded in 1986 by Oregon Pinot Noir pioneer Russ Raney, one of the original low-interventionists of the Eola-Amity Hills. Today Steve and Karen Lutz carry the estate's quiet, non-interventionist ethos forward, farming organically and bottling some of Oregon's most terroir-transparent whites and reds.
