Alcohol: 15.0 %

Grape(s): Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Vaccarèse

Location: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby to garnet with a dense core. The nose is rich and expressive, with black cherry, blackberry, plum, licorice, garrigue, smoked herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, and polished, showing ripe dark fruit, velvety tannins, and a long, savory finish with warmth, structure, and freshness in balance.

Notes: This is Domaine de la Mordorée’s historic flagship cuvée from old vines on the Plateau de la Crau, grown on argilo-siliceous soils with galets roulés. The estate describes the wine as a garde wine made with manual harvesting, indigenous yeasts, long maceration of up to 30 days, and ageing partly in barrels and partly in tank. The 2000 vintage is also widely noted as a strong, highly rated Châteauneuf-du-Pape with serious ageing potential.

Food Pairing: Excellent with roast lamb, game, braised beef, venison, or rich mushroom dishes.

Winery Story: Domaine de la Mordorée is a family estate in Tavel founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and Christophe Delorme, and it is known for biodynamic, terroir-focused wines from top sites across the Southern Rhône. La Reine des Bois is one of the domaine’s emblematic cuvées and appears in several appellations, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
