Alcohol: 13.5%
Grape(s): Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec
Location: Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby color. Ripe dark fruit, plum, and a touch of spice on the nose, with a rich, structured palate carried by clay-rich calcareous soils. Smooth tannins and a long, savory finish.
Notes: Jean-François Meynard farms 2.5 hectares of 45-year-old vines on the higher slopes of St. Étienne-de-Lisse, in the eastern part of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Grapes are de-stemmed and vinified parcel by parcel in thermo-regulated stainless steel, then aged 12 months in barrel (50% new oak, six different coopers) followed by 6 months in tank before bottling.
Food Pairing: Roast duck, braised short ribs, and aged Gouda or Comté.
Winery Story: Jean-François Meynard and Christelle Gauthier (Vignobles Meynard) produce wine from three Bordeaux appellations near the Dordogne River, transforming their family estate from bulk grape sales into estate-bottled wines rooted in 19th-century family history.
