Alcohol: 13.5%

Grape(s): 48% Cabernet Franc, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot

Location: Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France

Tasting Notes: Bright medium ruby. An arresting, perfumed nose of redcurrant, raspberry, blood orange, rose petals and fresh herbs. Silky and surprisingly weightless on the palate, with fine chalky tannins, whole-cluster freshness and a long, saline, savory finish. A Bordeaux unlike any other, awarded 98 points by Decanter.

Notes: Consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt helps craft this singular wine: 2019 was aged in a striking mix of 80% new barrel, 9% amphora and 11% foudre, with a high proportion of whole clusters.

Food Pairing: Roast chicken, duck, veal, mushroom dishes, and soft-ripened cheeses.

Winery Story: Founded in 1584 by Carmelite monks on land granted from the Haut-Brion estate, Château Les Carmes is the only Pessac-Léognan property with this monastic heritage. Its vineyard, tucked along the Seine-like banks of a stream in the city of Pessac, is home to some of the appellation's oldest Cabernet Franc.
