Tasting Notes: Deep garnet. A floral, rich and spicy nose — blackcurrant and crushed blackberry over the classic Haut-Médoc signature of cedar and graphite, with delicate vanilla and violet topnotes. Medium-to-full bodied and forthcoming, joyful even in its youth: silky, fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, polished finish. Critics have called the 2020 one of the finest La Lagunes ever made; decant 30 minutes now, or cellar 5-8 years and drink through the early 2030s.
Notes: Third Growth of the 1855 classification and the only classified growth of the Haut-Médoc appellation. The 2020 blends roughly 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Merlot and one of the Médoc’s highest shares of Petit Verdot, from gravel mounds at the southern gateway of the Médoc. Hand-harvested, parcel-by-parcel vinification, French oak élevage; the warm 2020 vintage gave rich, balanced reds here.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roast beef and lamb, duck breast, venison, hard aged cheeses, and mushroom-based dishes.
Winery Story: Château La Lagune stands at the first gravel rise entering the Médoc from Bordeaux — for centuries a beacon of elegance among the classified growths. Since 2004 it has been guided by winemaker Caroline Frey, whose meticulous, terroir-first approach has restored its rank among the Médoc’s finest; it reaches the US through importer Monsieur Touton.
