Grapes: Estate blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault from seventeen plots
Localization: Gigondas, Rhone Valley, France
Tasting Notes: The wine shows intense blackberry and fig fruit with licorice, violets, and charcoal on the finish. The unique micro-climate combined with old vines and traditional whole-bunch winemaking makes Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas the benchmark wine of the appellation.
Notes: Louis Barruol’s family has farmed this estate since 1490. The 2023 is drawn from the estate’s classic blend across its seventeen Gigondas plots, fermented with whole clusters and aged in large old oak foudres.
Food Pairing: Grilled lamb, game, roasted vegetables, aged cheeses.
Winery Story: Chateau de Saint Cosme is the oldest estate in Gigondas, producing the appellation’s benchmark wine for fifteen generations of the Barruol family. Louis Barruol also crafts a celebrated range of Northern Rhône wines from old purchased vines.
