Tasting Notes: This fully mature Riserva displays a deep mahogany-garnet color with brick-orange highlights. The complex, fully developed nose opens with rich tertiary aromas of dried cherry, leather, forest floor, black truffle, tar, and dried rose petals. On the palate, it is smooth, supple, and expansive, showing mellowed red fruit flavors intertwined with savory earth and spice notes. The once-grippy tannins are now rounded and silky, supported by harmonious, integrated acidity. The wine finishes long and elegant with lingering accents of dried fig, tobacco, and subtle wood smoke.

Notes: Sourced from Borgogno's prime historical vineyard holdings across the Barolo commune, including the Liste, Cannubi, and Fossati crus with limestone-clay soils. Traditional winemaking features extended skin contact maceration followed by six full years of aging in large Slavonian oak casks (botte grande). This prolonged barrel aging requirement earns the wine its coveted Riserva designation and legendary longevity.

Food Pairing: A magnificent match for classic Piedmontese dishes like braised beef in Barolo, roasted game, or agnolotti del plin with black truffle. Aged cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or Gorgonzola naturally complement its savory complexity.

Winery Story: Founded in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno, Giacomo Borgogno and Figli is one of the oldest and most legendary wine houses in Barolo. Located in the heart of Barolo village, the house built its international reputation on traditional, long-aged Barolos capable of evolving over decades. Borgogno uniquely holds back large stocks of historic vintages in its underground cellars for late release. Today, the estate continues to uphold traditional practices, including spontaneous fermentations and extended aging in large Slavonian oak barrels.
