Alcohol: 12%

Grape(s): 100% Zweigelt

Location: Kamptal, Niederösterreich, Austria

Tasting Notes: Brilliant ruby-violet hue. Aromas of juicy black cherry, red plum, and violet mingle with subtle white pepper and a whisper of forest floor. The palate is vibrant and medium-light in body, offering crunchy raspberry, sour cherry, and a touch of licorice framed by lively acidity and silky, low-grip tannins. A mouthwatering, ultra-drinkable finish invites the next sip — equally enjoyable lightly chilled or at cellar temperature.

Notes: Sourced from loess and gravel parcels around Strass im Strassertale. Hand-harvested, partly destemmed and partly whole-cluster for extra lift. Native-yeast fermentation in open vats; brief maceration to keep tannins gentle. Aged six months in large, neutral Austrian oak foudres before racking to stainless steel for natural settling. Bottled unfiltered in a one-liter crown-cap format with minimal sulfur — pure, joyful Zweigelt meant for the table.

Food Pairing: Charcuterie, schnitzel, barbecue chicken, pizza Margherita, grilled vegetables, or simply picnic fare with crusty bread and hard cheese.

Winery Story: Martin and Anna Arndorfer are the third generation working the steep, sun-splashed slopes of Kamptal, yet their approach is anything but conventional. After apprenticeships in Italy and stints at cutting-edge natural cellars in France, the couple returned home determined to let Kamptal's diverse soils speak with minimal interference. They farm 16 ha biodynamically, eschewing synthetic chemicals in favor of compost teas, shallow tilling, and cover crops to promote biodiversity.

The cellar in Strass is a renovated 18th-century stable where gravity replaces pumps and fermentations proceed exclusively with native yeasts. Oak comes from local forests and is always old and large, chosen to add texture rather than flavor. Sulfur is used sparingly — just enough to protect freshness during the long journey many bottles take to export markets.

The liter-bottled Zweigelt embodies Martin and Anna's philosophy that serious wine can still be fun. Crafted for the heuriger table — bright, honest, and thirst-quenching — it's the kind of red locals enjoy alongside cold cuts and fresh bread after a day in the vines. By offering it in an eco-friendly, crown-capped liter, the Arndorfers honor Austria's tavern tradition while inviting a new generation of wine lovers to discover Kamptal's unpretentious charm, one generous pour at a time.
