Alcohol: 13.0 %

Grape(s): 100 % Pinot Noir

Location: “Clos du Roy” climat, Marsannay AOC, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France (north-facing slope above Chenôve at 260–300 m)

Tasting Notes: Limpid ruby-crimson. A lifted bouquet of wild strawberry, redcurrant, and Morello cherry mingles with rose petal, orange peel, and a whisper of crushed thyme. The medium-bodied palate is precise and vibrant: crunchy red-fruit purity framed by fine, chalk-dust tannins and racy acidity. Undertones of flint, black tea, and subtle oak spice emerge toward a long, saline, mineral-etched finish.

Notes: Domaine Bart’s Marsannay “Clos du Roy” comes from 50- to 70-year-old vines rooted in thin limestone scree over Bajocian marl. Hand-picked in small crates, 20 % whole clusters retained. Native-yeast fermentation in open wooden cuves with gentle pigeage; 12 days on skins. Élevage 14 months in French oak pièces (≈25 % new), then bottled unfiltered with minimal SO₂. Certified HVE (sustainable) and managed lutte raisonnée.

Food Pairing: Excellent with roast guinea fowl, duck breast with cherry sauce, mushroom-herb risotto, Comté, or charcuterie such as jambon persillé. Its finesse also flatters grilled salmon and vegetable tarts.

Winery Story: Domaine Bart traces its roots to the historic Domaine Clair-Daü, once among Burgundy’s largest estates. When Clair-Daü dissolved in 1985, descendant Pierre Bart inherited choicest parcels in Marsannay, Fixin, and Chambolle-Musigny. Today Pierre’s children, Martin and Odile Bart, farm 23 ha with a light touch in vineyard and cellar, championing Marsannay’s emerging crus—especially the revered “Clos du Roy”—and crafting wines prized for their purity, energy, and authentic expression of Côte de Nuits terroir.
