Alcohol: 14.5 %
Grape(s): Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Location: Bolgheri DOC, Tuscany, Italy
Tasting Notes: Intense ruby red. A very focused Bolgheri with blackcurrant, hints of dark tobacco and bark, and a lift of orange peel. Medium to full body, juicy and layered, with the freshness and finesse of the excellent 2021 vintage — fine-grained tannins, mineral and spicy layers, and a long, savory finish. Enjoy over the next 8-10 years.
Notes: Merlot 50%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Cabernet Franc 20%, Petit Verdot 10%, from the estate’s vineyards on Bolgheri’s alluvial, sun-brightened plain between the hills and the sea. Fermented parcel by parcel and aged in French oak barriques with a modest proportion new. The 2021 vintage on the Tuscan coast was balanced and precise — one of the great recent Bolgheri years.
Food Pairing: Excellent with bistecca alla fiorentina, roast lamb, wild boar ragù, hard aged cheeses, and mushroom dishes.
Winery Story: Poggio al Tesoro is the Bolgheri estate the Allegrini family of Valpolicella fame fell in love with in 2001 — 50 hectares of prime Bolgheri terroir named for the local song of the wind. “Il Seggio,” named for Castagneto Carducci’s main stream, is its classic Bolgheri Rosso: the celebrated Tuscan coast blend, ready earlier than its flagship siblings.
