Alcohol: 13.0 %
Grape(s): Dolcetto
Location: Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, Langhe, Piedmont, Italy
Tasting Notes: Deep purple-ruby with the violet rim classic to Dolcetto. A fragrant nose of black cherry, dark plum and violets with a warm almond note. On the palate it is fresh and juicy: bright dark fruit, a lick of spice, gentle tannins and that signature bitter-almond finish that makes Dolcetto the Langhe’s everyday pleasure wine. Zesty acidity keeps it lively and food-friendly — serve slightly cool and drink young and happy over the next 2-3 years.
Notes: 100% Dolcetto from the family’s vineyards on the San Ponzio hill above the village of Barolo itself, on the commune’s western flank. Hand-harvested, vinified traditionally in steel with a short maceration to keep the fruit bright and the tannins soft. The 2024 vintage gave fresh, well-balanced wines in the Langhe.
Food Pairing: Perfect with pasta with ragù, pizza, roast pork, charcuterie and Taleggio — the classic trattoria red.
Winery Story: Azienda Agricola Collina San Ponzio is the Balocco family’s farm on the hill of San Ponzio, right in the village of Barolo — a hundred-plus years of family winemaking on soils that neighbor Barolo’s most famous crus. Their Dolcetto comes from the same hallowed ground as their Barolo, at a table-wine pace and price: honest, traditional Langhe winemaking in every glass.
