Jean Foillard Morgon Corcelette 2024
Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): 100% Gamay (old vines)
Location: Morgon, Beaujolais, France
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby color with purple hues; complex aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum, layered with notes of violet, iron, wet stone and subtle earthy undertones; medium- to full-bodied with firm yet refined tannins and vibrant acidity, offering rich flavors of dark fruit, graphite and spice, leading to a long, structured and beautifully mineral finish.
Notes: Sourced from old vines planted on the decomposed volcanic schist soils of the Corcelette lieu-dit in Morgon, this wine stands as one of Jean Foillard's most celebrated cuvées. Whole-cluster fermentation and minimal sulfite addition preserve the vineyard's unique character, producing a wine with the depth and ageing potential more reminiscent of a great Burgundy than a typical Beaujolais.
Food Pairing: Pairs exceptionally well with roast duck, lamb, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, and aged cheeses. Can be enjoyed now or cellared for 5–10 years.
Winery Story: Jean Foillard is one of Beaujolais' most revered natural winemakers, a key figure of the legendary "Gang of Four" alongside Marcel Lapierre, Guy Breton and Jean-Paul Thévenet. Based in Villié-Morgon, Foillard has championed low-intervention viticulture and winemaking for decades, producing wines of remarkable freshness, depth and authenticity that have helped redefine the image of Beaujolais on the world stage. The Corcelette vineyard remains the crown jewel of his estate.
