Alcohol: 14%
Grape(s): 100% Tempranillo
Localization: Rioja Alavesa, Spain
Tasting Notes: Deep purple-cherry. Initial aromas of wild berries, violets, aromatic herbs, clay, and menthol. Flavorful and fruity, with well-integrated aromas of raspberries, blueberries, violet candy, and smoky notes. Recommended for pasta, rice dishes, tapas, and white meats.
Notes: The grapes are hand-harvested in 14 kg crates from our Anda Verde vineyard, planted in the 1990s. This unique vineyard, covering 3 hectares, has calcareous soil with pebbles. Whole grapes are used for alcoholic fermentation in cement tanks for approximately 8 days at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the same tanks, and the wine is aged 50% in second-use French oak barrels and 50% in cement tanks, both for 12 months, after which it is blended.
The Domain: The Fernandez Gomez family has a history in viticulture that stretches back for more than a century, but it was the vision of the latest generation that first brought their production to the commercial market through the emergence of Bodegas Tierra. With nearly 80 acres of prime vineyard holdings in Rioja Alavesa, some containing original hundred-year-old plantings, it’s not surprising Tierra quickly earned an impressive reputation as an estate grower and producer. Efforts taken by Tierra focus on maintaining grape integrity from vineyard to bottle so true character is maintained; picking is always done by hand, with great care and winemaking never intrusive. Within the stylistic spectrum of Rioja, expect robust, balanced wines that integrate generous barrel maturity with minimal oxidative characteristics.
