Tasting Notes: The Barbera d'Alba is another stellar entry-level wine from Burlotto. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, sage, and mocha caress the palate. Fabio Alessandria did not bottle Aves, his top Barbera; instead, all of the fruit was used for this bottling. As a result, the wine is especially strong. Stylistically, there is a touch of new oak from the Aves lots used in the blend.
The Domain: The Burlotto winery is located near Verduno and was founded by the Commendatore Giovan Battista Burlotto in the second half of the 19th century; the wines produced soon became a reference point in the Langhe. This was also thanks to the farsightedness of Giovan Battista, who began to sell wines in bottle in a period in which the wine was sold exclusively in demijohns or kegs. The current owner today is Marina Burlotto, which has 12 hectares of vineyards located in the area of Verduno, Barolo and Roddi, from which obtains an average production of 60,000 bottles.
