Location: Jumilla (D.O. Jumilla), Spain
Grape(s): 100% Garnacha (Grenache)
Tasting Notes: The El Molar opens with lifted aromas of red cherries, wild berries, and Mediterranean herbs, carrying a subtle balsamic edge and a touch of white pepper. On the palate it’s bright and elegant, showing juicy red fruit wrapped in fine, chalky tannins and a thread of refreshing acidity. Gentle oak influence adds hints of toast and cocoa without weighing the wine down, allowing its mineral backbone and Rhône‑like finesse to shine through in a long, balanced finish.
Notes: Fermentation with native yeasts in underground stone lagares; 14 months aging in 500L barrels and 5,000L foudres.
Food Pairing: Grilled lamb or pork, Roasted chicken with herbs, Paella or Spanish rice dishes, Charcuterie, jamón, and aged Manchego, Mushroom dishes or roasted vegetables
Winery Story: Casa Castillo is one of the most respected producers in Jumilla, known for elevating the region’s reputation with wines that consistently overdeliver at every price point. The estate works organically and focuses on expressing the rugged, Mediterranean terroir of southeastern Spain. While historically known for Monastrell, Casa Castillo has gained acclaim for its exceptional Garnacha bottlings like El Molar, which showcase finesse, freshness, and a Rhône‑like elegance.
