Grape(s): 100% Montepulciano

Location: Abruzzo, Central Italy

Tasting Notes: Tart and earthy nose with black cherry, blackberry, topsoil, root beer, fennel. Juicier palate with licorice candy, lively acidity, and firm tannins.

Notes: Organically grown, old‑vine fruit. Producer emphasizes low yields and meticulous vine cutting to enhance concentration.

Food pairing: This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is wonderfully versatile at the table, pairing effortlessly with hearty dishes like beef, veal, pork, and a wide range of pasta preparations. Its juicy fruit and savory undertones also make it a standout companion for richer comfort foods—producer notes even call out how exceptionally well it complements a blue‑cheese burger, where the wine’s acidity and tannin cut through the richness beautifully.

Winery Story: Born from a project of four friends , a dream cultivated with the same love and patience with which one grows the vine, caressed with the same satisfaction and anticipation with which one pours the best bottle.

In the late 1980s, Elisabetta Di Berardino, Antonio Lamona, Luca Moretti, and, in the early 1990s, Fabio Pedicone, were young colleagues at the same winery, having grown up in the cellar and with a passion for wine in their DNA. While working as consultants, they discovered the La Quercia winery, which had grown up around a 1960s restaurant. Its owner had started producing wine to meet the needs of his restaurant and the diners who wanted to buy the wine.

In 2000, Antonio and Elisabetta ushered in the millennium and their entrepreneurial adventure, with their friend Fabio Pedicone joining in 2001. They took over the La Quercia winery, rolled up their sleeves to revive a neglected winery, and together faced all the initial challenges. In 2004, they began to realize their plans to expand their range of grape varieties and improve their wine. They were convinced of the region's potential and envisioned a high-quality wine aimed at a new, more discerning audience. They were determined to enhance their product, including through a new marketing and sales approach. That same year, they began collaborating with a US importer, and the market responded enthusiastically.

In 2008, the company welcomed a fourth partner, Luca Moretti, and began significant investments in new, technologically advanced equipment.

Today, La Quercia is a winery that extends over approximately 46.50 hectares of vineyards and approximately 5 hectares of olive groves, with an adjoining winemaking facility of approximately 800 m2, with a production capacity of approximately 9,000 hl of wine.

It produces excellent labels, highlights local wines, and best expresses the values and passion of the four friends who continue to fuel its dream, growth, and identity.
