Tasting Notes: Palacio del Burgo Crianza opens with expressive aromas of red and black fruits such as cherries, raspberries, plums, and wild berries, intertwined with vanilla, spice, and subtle toasted notes from oak aging. On the palate, it is elegant, structured, and silky, offering creamy texture, refined tannins, and a long, harmonious finish. Critics highlight hints of cream, spices, toffee, hibiscus, and a well-balanced red-berry character.
Notes: This wine is aged for 12 months in American oak barrels, contributing to its classic Rioja profile of vanilla, coconut, and gentle toast. Its ruby‑red color with violet or ruby hues reflects both youth and depth.
Food Pairing: The Crianza pairs beautifully with roast meats, grilled lamb, charcuterie, aged cheeses, and hearty stews. Its balanced acidity and silky tannins make it versatile at the table, complementing both rustic Spanish dishes and modern European cuisine. Serving it slightly below room temperature (around 16–17°C) enhances its aromatic complexity.
The Domain: The vineyards measure 200 hectares – 494 acres – (90% tinto, 5% rosado, 5% blanco) and spread throughout the municipality of Alfaro, La Rioja, Spain at the foothills of Yerga Mountain, on the banks of the fertile Ebro Valley. This area offers a huge diversity of soils and microclimates where the grape varietals, Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha, Carignan, Graciano and Viura grow to become Burgo Viejo wines. Most of the vines are 30 years old. Some Garnacha are over 90 years old and some young organic Graciano have been planted. The types of oak used are 90% American and 10% French.
